Intown Atlanta Neighborhood - Morningside
They say history repeats itself and apparently that is true in real estate as well. The Morningside community in Atlanta is significantly newer than many of the other in-town neighborhoods of Atlanta. While many other neighborhoods were established and homes were built in the 1900 – 1920 timeframe, Morningside was founded in 1931. It was the latest and greatest neighborhood at the time and people were immediately attracted to the new construction in favor of the 20+year old homes that other neighborhoods had to offer. This is very similar to what we have seen take place in many of Atlanta’s modern day suburbs.
Morningside was threatened at one time by a proposal to build a new highway (I-485) that would cut right through the neighborhood. In fact, 2-3 homes were taken via eminent domain in preparation for the construction of that highway. At that time, Morningside experienced a period in which it lost some of its desirability due to the possibility of the highway being built through it. The residents fought the proposal and the highway was never constructed.
Today, Morningside is a beautiful tree lined neighborhood that is loaded with charm. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History is located in the general area of Morningside as well. You will pay a premium price for a home in Morningside and Morningside elementary school is one of the top performing public elementary schools in Atlanta.
