Intown Atlanta Neighborhood - East Atlanta
East Atlanta has gone through some major changes over the years. There was a period in which there was some deterioration and abandonment of this part of Atlanta due to civil rights issues in the 1960’s. However, during the 1990’s revival of in-town neighborhoods, many people started to be attracted to the more affordable pricing in the area. For this reason, many artists, musicians and creative folks chose this area and it started to become a major center for night life; particularly for the music scene. In 2007 and 2008, the East Atlanta Village was voted “Best Neighborhood” in the city by readers of Creative Loafing; a weekly Atlanta newspaper that keeps readers posted on what’s going on particularly in terms of live music and cultural activities. The resurgence of this area has caused home prices to rise steadily throughout the 1990’s. However, it remains to be seen how well this trend will continue in the current years due to the general economic downturn and real estate decline of 2007 – 2011.
