Asa Candler, former CEO of Coca Cola and Mayor of Atlanta in the early 1900’s was influential in moving the campus of Emory University into Atlanta in the area that is Druid Hills. The Emory Campus is a main landmark within this community that was one of the more affluent original Atlanta suburbs. The streets are lined with old mansions from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This part of Atlanta is also home to the Center For Disease Control. A drive through the Druid Hills area will give you a glimpse into what life was like for the wealthier Atlanta residents in the early 1900’s including the mansion that Candler himself lived in at the time.
