Buckhead
The area referred to by locals as Buckhead is not actually an official city name. It’s a name given to the ultra posh district within Atlanta’s city limits that actually comprises several different neighborhoods including nearby Brookhaven, Chastain Park, Collier Hills, Garden Hills, Lindbergh, Mount Paran, Peachtree Hills, Pine Hills, Tuxedo Park, Peachtree Battle and more.
The Buckhead area is one of the most affluent and expensive parts of Atlanta and often touted as Atlanta’s answer to Beverly Hills. According to Forbes Magazine, the 30327 zip code in Buckhead is the ninth wealthiest zip code in the nation. Average annual income for the zip code is above $341K and the average home value in 2005 was $761,000. The residential streets are lined with multi-million dollar estate homes many of which have been handed down through generations of Atlanta’s high society families. The business district has enough skyscrapers to actually appear as a second skyline when looking at Atlanta at a birds eye view or from an airplane. At one time, the section of Peachtree Street in Buckhead was the center of nigh life for the city. However, more recently, local residents lobbied to have some laws changed regarding drinking establishments as concerns about noise, crime, and congestion began to threaten the posh neighborhoods around it. However, the Buckhead area is still a primary destination for fine dining in the region.
