Canton

In 2005, Canton was the fastest growing city in Georgia and the 5th fastest growing city in the entire United States. Canton is the city center for all of the Cherokee County government offices and is one of the most heavily populated areas in Cherokee County. In the early days, Canton was known for its well known cotton mill that produced Canton Denim Jeans which at one time were a very well known quality denim product much like Levis. Today, the original Canton Cotton Mill has been converted to trendy loft style condominiums.

Canton is commutable distance from Atlanta; but is pushing the limits for many as far as how far they are willing to venture out for a daily commute. You can get much more land in Canton than you will in closer in suburbs for the same price. Homes aren’t necessarily cheaper on a per square foot basis for the home itself; but for those who want a much larger yard, this is the place. As you drive through Canton today, you’ll see a transformation around each corner feeling one minute like you are in a populated suburb of subdivision homes and around the next corner, you will feel like you’ve taken a long drive out to the country. For the time being, this dichotomy of landscape is rather enjoyable as you can have the conveniences of a more populated area while still feeling like you are in the country. However, I would not expect that to be preserved for too much longer as the more populated Canton definitely seems to be taking over the old charming countryside and displacing the many horse and cow residents of the area in favor of strip malls and subdivisions. If you are seeking a home with more land and breathtaking views of the North Georgia Mountain Ranges while keeping modern conveniences, you should consider Canton.
