Cobb County Georgia is a very large county that spans approximately 340 square miles and is comprised of approximately 27 zip codes and makes up most of the closer-in suburbs on the Northwest side of Atlanta. Per the 2007 Census, Cobb’s population was 691,905. Cobb was created in 1832 and is named after Thomas W. Cobb, a U.S. Representative and Senator for the state of Georgia in the early 1800’s. Cities within Cobb County include Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Marietta, Powder Springs, Smyrna, and Mableton. Because of the size of Cobb County, many refer to specific quadrants of Cobb such as West Cobb, East Cobb, North Cobb, and South Cobb. The city center of Marietta is where the Cobb County Courthouse and offices can be found and is located at the approximate center point of the County. Real estate in Cobb County is generally sought after; partly due to the relatively low property tax rates compared to other counties. In addition, Cobb County homeowners who are over the age of 62 receive a significant discount on their property taxes since they are exempt from the school portion of the tax bill.
