950 Forrest Street, Roswell, GA, 770-594-6411; Monday to Friday at 10, Fridays at 1, and Saturdays at 11; Showtime approximately 25 minutes in length with an opportunity to meet the puppeteers and the puppets immediately following the show.  Children 2-12 are $4 per person, lap babies free, adults are $5.  Cash and checks only.  Puppet workshops follow each M-F 10am show for $3 ages 5 and over.  You can buy the puppet to take home.  It's a great craft activity.

·         Movies in the Park http://www.johnscreekga.gov/parks - Movies in the Park are outdoor family-friendly festivals with inflatables, a clown act, food, vendors etc. held in parks in Johns Creek that conclude with an blockbuster movie being shown on a huge inflatable movie screen.  The events, which are free to the public, are financially sponsored by local area companies and organizations, with the top supporters including Northside Hospital Forsyth, Atlanta Babies & Kids and Southern Outdoor Cinema. Art instructors from Out of the Box Art Studio in Alpharetta will visit the library to instruct children on creating their own beautiful pastel/collage of Van Gogh's famous sunflowers. Ages 3-5. Limit first 30 children.

·         Alive After Five: Every third Thursday on Canton Street in beautiful Historic Roswell from 5:00pm 'til 9:00pm you will find merchants with specials, restaurants ready to serve your favorite meal, galleries with fabulous art and crafts, and nonprofit organizations to inform and educate you. Balloons decorate the streets and there is live music in three locations up and down Canton Street for your enjoyment. A free trolley is available to take you up and down the street all night. ·         Roswell Touch a Truck: Saturday, May 16, 2009 9:00 AM

Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill Street, Roswell, GA 30075

To kick off National Public Works Week May 18-22, the City of Roswell will host Touch a Truck on May 16 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at City Hall. This event provides an opportunity for citizens of all ages to see firsthand the equipment used to provide necessary services to their families.

Bring your kids and explore the mysterious workings of the street sweeper or watch up close just how the sanitation truck works.  There will be something for everyone to learn at this event.

·         Family Field Day:  Saturday, May 16, 2009 10:00 AM; East Roswell Recreation Center; Bring your family out for an afternoon of fun, games, music and food! We will have a good old fashioned field day! Relay races, tug o’ war, and many other "field day" games. Prizes will be awarded to winning families. After the fun and games we will have a cookout. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Each participant must be registered to attend. All ages, children under 12 must be accompanied by a adult. Held at East Roswell Recreation Center. ·         Third Sundaes at Barrington Hall at 10:00 AM; May 17th, June 21, July 19 & August 16; Join us on the third Sunday of each month from May to August for an old fashioned ice cream social. At the end of your tour you will be treated to a free ice cream sundae. Held at Barrington Hall.

 

·         Kid's Dog Show:  Saturday, May 23, 2009 11:00 AM at Bill Johnson Community Activity Building Children will have the opportunity to show off their dogs. Dogs must be at least one year old. Awards will be given for the most obedient, best trick in one minute, smallest, largest, and best costumed dog. There will also be an award for "Best in Show". Children ages 5-15, age on date of show. Held at Bill Johnson Community Activity Building. Saturday 5/23 11 a.m. to Finish

Fee: $10, residents $15, non-residents

·         31st Annual Old Soldiers Day Race - Wills Park; Saturday, August 1, 2009 7:00 AM

Join us for this family fun event, now in its 31st year!  The Old Soldiers Day Race includes a 5K and 10K race for people of all ages.  Pre-registration ends Friday July 24th at 4pm.  All race applications and fees must be in-hand by this time.  Early-bird registration fee is $15 per person and includes an event t-shirt.  Registration will resume on race day at 6am.  Race-day registration fee is $20 - event t-shirts are not guaranteed to race-day registrants.  Pre-registered participants may pick up their race packet, t-shirt and race number a few days before the event at the Alpharetta Community Center.  Dates/times for packet pickup will be posted on the City's website.  Volunteers are always needed to help with this event!  If you have any questions, please contact Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department staff at 678-297-6100 or accprograms@alpharetta.ga.us.

Alpharetta City Band / 9:30am Program / 10:15 Parade

The City of Alpharetta and the American Legion Post 201 will hold the 57th Annual Old Soldiers Day Parade on Saturday, August 1, 2009 in downtown Alpharetta. The parade is just one way that our country’s war veterans are recognized for the service. A Memorial Service will begin on Main Street in front of City Hall at 8:45 am music, 9:30 am  program and 10:15 am parade. It will end at the American Legion Post 201 on Wills Road for FREE food and activities.
Along with the program and parade, this celebration will also feature floats, bands, entertainment, children’s activities, and prizes. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be available at the American Legion at 201 Wills Road. For more information call 678-297-6078.

·         Blueberry Picking at Berry Patch Farms: www.berrypatchfarms.net  Beginning late June or early July (depending on the crop), last about a month; Mon-Sat 8am until dark, Sun 12pm until dark, double-check before you go.  Grab a bucket and fill it with the best blueberries in Georgia! Our blueberries are never sprayed with pesticides.  They are totally pesticide-free, so feel free to eat them right off the bushes!  Blueberries can be frozen for your blueberry muffins, pancakes and desserts all year long. Go as early as you can.  It gets super hot, but the kids love it.

·         Centennial Park - Family Fun Day every 4th Saturday April to September from 12-4.  Enjoy an afternoon of FREE, themed family fun once a month from spring to fall at Centennial Olympic Park's Fourth Saturday Family Fun Day! The event is full of interactive, entertaining and educational activities for children and each Saturday features a different theme.

Most programs are free with Museum admission ($18 for adults and $11 for children 6-17) and children under six years of age always receive free admission.  - Weekend Family Tours: On Sat and Sun, the museum offers free family tours of the permanent collection that leave from the Greene Family Learning Gallery at 2 p.m.  In addition, Fulton County Residents get in free the first Saturday of the month.

Children’s Museum in Atlanta: Target Free Tuesdays - The 2nd Tuesday of every month through December 31st, 2009 from 1:00 PM-7:00 PM.  Through a sponsorship by Target, admission is free for all visitors who come during these special hours. The free timed tickets will be available at the Museum starting at 1 p.m. during each Target Free Second Tuesday, and the Museum will close at 7 p.m. Timed tickets are issued on a first come first served basis as Museum capacity permits. ·         Autrey Mill Nature Reserve and Heritage Center – They offer nature camps for children ages 4 – 10 and I believe they still have room left.  In addition there are several drop-in options for the preschool and school aged kids.  So, even if you don't do the nature camp, Autrey Mill is well worth visiting! The grounds are gorgeous and there is a little stream that you can bring a lunch and sit out on the flat rocks with the kids for your picnic.
